The Youghiogheny
River Trail (YRT) and most of the other trails
that make up The
Great Allegheny Passage, has been constructed
on an old railroad bed. The trail has a limestone surface
and is great for biking, hiking, walking and jogging. In
the winter months, if Mother Nature is willing, this is
a fantastic spot for cross-country skiing. The West Newton
trail-head is located a short 2./10 mile from the Inn along
the West Side of the Youghiogheny River. This network of
trails connect Cumberland, MD to Pittsburgh, PA and currently
provide over 100 continuous miles of smooth surface with
an addition 52-mile branch to the Pittsburgh International
Airport. In Cumberland, MD the Great Allegheny passage connects
to the C&O Canal Towpath providing continuous access to
Washington D.C. The Inn has secure, indoor storage for bikes.
Korber's
Bike Shop is located at the YRT trail head.
This is a full service shop where you can rent bikes, purchase
bikes and accessories or have your bike serviced.
Youghiogheny
Canoe Outfitters is the place to go for all
of your canoeing and fishing needs. They are located just
past the YRT trail head. They offer canoe rentals, bait
and fishing equipment. For those of you who would like to
take longer canoe rides, the also offer shuttle services.
